In the past, I've used Big Box stores for my home improvement needs until I had a few problems with the companies they sub-contract with. Since then, I have tried to use only local contractors with whom I can deal with personally.

This year I needed to have my pitted, chipped and flaked patio replaced. I checked local concrete contractors and looked up their ratings on the BBB website. One contractor, Catalano Concrete appeared to be just what I was looking for.

I called and within a day, the owner, who has been in the business for 35 years, came over to look at the job and give me an estimate. He spent a lot of time with me discussing options as well as taking numerous measurements to ensure my previous grading problems were addressed. His estimate was reasonable and we went to contract.

Two days after I obtained the appropriate permits, Sal Catalano and his team were at the house, meeting the inspector and ready for work. Within two days, the old patio was removed and the new patio installed. Two days later the crew came back to break down the forms and clean up. The new patio is great and just what we wanted. The back yard was cleaned up and so no one would know that a crew of 6 or 7 workmen did any work at all.

Sal and his team were not only competitive in price and professional, but very helpful in offering suggestions to improve the overall product. I would strongly recommend Catalano Concrete for anyone who may be contemplating concrete work.

Sal showed up on time to give us an estimate. Told us all we would have to do - very little. Called two weeks later to check on village permit. When I told him I had the permit in hand, he showed up within 30 minutes to dig out our old porch. The next day they poured the new porch - slightly bigger at Sal's suggestion, with the new walkway. It is absolutely beautiful. A great on-time job. I would definitely recommend Catalano Concrete Construction to anyone! Definitely 5 stars and then some!!!!

Catalano Concrete installed new brick steps for a front door entrance. The workers helped me choose the brick that pulled the whole look together: matching siding, the new door, and existing plants. Our Front stoop was in really bad shape & Catalano concrete was able to salvage our rails to get them repaired while they broke out the front stoop & Walk which only took 2hrs the guy that did it was so fast & amazing! what a transformation the next day they removed all the boulders put rebar back in the stoop & framed it out. The 3rd day they poured! its amazing we could walk on the front stoop after 2 days! it looks great & I would def. recommend them to anyone! Fast & great to work with!

What you need to know before selecting a contractor

1) Are they insured for liability and workers compensation?

Any contractor you use should have liability and workman’s compensation insurance. The insurance protects you if your property is damaged during the job or if one of the company’s employees is injured while working on your property. While a state license is not required by the state, some cities require licensing. Catalano Concrete is a licensed contractor and carries both types of insurance with $2 million coverage.

It is critical you receive a written estimate that includes dimensions, scope of work, materials used (e.g. six bag mix 4000 psi concrete) and payment schedule with minimal legal jargon.
